Striped Shirtdress and the Coastal Living Idea House

Happy Labor Day!  I started writing this post ages ago and never put the finishing touches on it until this weekend.

Last month my mom, Caroline and I went and checked out the Coastal Living Idea House in Habersham, South Carolina.  For those of you who aren't familiar, Habersham is Southern Living's master planned community in Beaufort, SC and it is amazing.  I had never been before but all of the homes were drool-worthy, there were countless massive oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and it was all nestled in a beautiful marsh setting.  The idea house is open for tours until the end of October, so if you love filing away decorating ideas and if you happen to find yourself in this neck of the woods then you've got to go check it out!  It's also in this month's Coastal Living issue.  I wasn't crazy about the pop-art that was in some of the rooms and I know much of the furnishings were way more high-end than anything I could ever afford, but I really enjoyed soaking it all in and daydreaming of having a "forever" home one day.

I wore this blue and white striped shirtdress and I love how pulled together I felt but it was also nice and cool and nursing friendly.  I found the dress on the Walmart website for only $15.88 (on sale for $13 now!) and I loved the style so much that I also bought it in red (also comes in black)!  The slits on the side are a tad high but you only really notice it when you sit down.  For a great option that will transition well to fall you could go for this darling version with sleeves (albeit it is J.Crew so is more expensive than Walmart).  Another fun option is this striped jumpsuit that I just ordered, taking advantage of the Labor Day weekend sales (currently 40% off with code BIGSALE).  I've never worn a jumpsuit before but I tried it on in the store when I was in Charleston and I immediately knew I needed to add it to my wardrobe.  It is sooooo cute and flattering!

I paired it with my basket backpack that I seem to use every day now.  It doesn't have pockets so it's not as organized as a diaper bag (I really need one of the inserts that turns any bag into a diaper bag), but it's definitely more practical than your traditional tote bag, especially if you're a mom and want to embrace the basket bag trend.

I hope you've all had a great long weekend!

    1. I'm so excited for it to get here! I tried it on in Charleston but felt it ran a bit big and they didn't have my size. Glad I waited so I could snag it on sale too!
