Well it happened again. Last year I told Tom that I was finished finding random furniture at thrift stores but last week I found a dresser I just couldn't pass up! We actually did need a new dresser because my old Ikea one was falling apart, so I stumbled upon this dresser right at the perfect time.
I've been a sucker for faux bamboo for years now and I just love the details on this dresser. Plus it was only $40!!! The brand is Omega and I've seen this exact dresser and the matching credenza redone a few times on the internet and I can't wait to tackle this piece. Here is this same dresser fixed up in a fun teal color:
Unfortunately a few of the original drawer pulls were missing so I'm going to have to find a good replacement. The drawers aren't stinky (a problem I've had with one of my other thrift store pieces of furniture...and I can't figure out how to get the stink out!) and they open and close smoothly (after using some WD-40), so once I'm able to paint it it'll be good as new.
I've recently realized that I tend to be impulsive when redoing furniture and I think things are a bit too colorful in our home. Individually the pieces all look good, but I'm really starting to get a little overwhelmed by all the color. I think I'll likely just paint this white to keep things nice and crisp. We are moving to Kansas this summer so I'm just going to paint it once we get there. I can't wait to work on it!
I also found this faux bamboo mirror at the thrift store:
I guess someone had just donated it because it hadn't even been priced yet. I asked the manager how much it was and he told me $5. I think I lucked out! I'm pretty sure he was going to price it for quite a bit more than that, but for $5 I jumped on it immediately. I'll probably paint it but I'm going to be more deliberate in my color choices so I'm not going to settle on anything quite yet. What color would you paint it?
Have you found any good thrift store pieces lately?
