Baby Boy Nursery Inspiration

July 7, 2015
Now that I know we are having a boy I can't stop thinking about how I'll decorate the nursery.  I can't start decorating just yet because we are moving to a larger apartment at the end of August, but I already have so many ideas floating around in my brain.  The nursery "theme" I have up in my head (although the idea of a true "themed" nursery makes me squirm because I like more of an eclectic look) is a well traveled/coastal/adventure nursery.  I'm all about saving money, so I plan on using a lot of what we already have, and just buying some of the things we need (like a crib).  Below are some of my favorite design boards/photos for baby boy rooms, and I'll likely pull ideas from all of them.

I love how crisp this nursery looks, and the idea to use an oriental rug is genius.  Maybe I'll use my Afghan carpet in the nursery.  We'll see.

This entire nursery is so much fun.  I already own a campaign chest, I just need to paint it white.  Check out the rest of the photos here.

I scored a vintage brass floor lamp at Lucketts for less than $35 a few months ago.  It's very similar to the one featured here, and I think it'll add a nice nautical/rustic touch to the nursery.

I don't know how well the white carpet would stand up to a baby, but I like the whimsical artwork and the touches of brown.  I already have agate bookends that I'll add to the bookshelf.

I have 3 white animal heads from Z Gallerie that I plan on adding to the nursery.  Like I said, this nursery is going to be a mishmash of a whole bunch of themes!

  1. Have you thought about using the campaign hutch you posted on Instagram as a dresser/changing table combo? Dual purpose means saving lots of space. You may have thought of that already but I just wanted to share. All of these ideas are super cute!

    1. Yep, that's the plan! I'm hoping to be able to use the hutch part for extra storage, but I'm not sure how it'll work with a changing pad on it. If it's too cramped I'll end up just using the dresser portion. Painting the piece white is on my to do list before we move!

  2. What is the source for the courageous cutie collage? I'm interested in a few pieces on there!

  3. Omg, where are those baby, African animal prints from?! We're not planning to have kids anytime soon but those are just so cute! Anything African gets me. :)

    1. Hi Ellie! They're so cute, aren't they? I linked to the collage source at the bottom of the post (image "5") and you can get to the link to the prints from there :)

  4. Don't put your Afghan rug in there, it will be ruined. Even before he starts walking there will be spilled milk/formula, throw up, etc. if I had it to be over I would have pulled up all the carpet in my kid's rooms and put down laminate flooring.

  5. Can't wait to see the room! I love your ideas....and love the "let it happen" look vs. the theme. When our kids were born we couldn't afford theme and I love how things evolved for both of my kids through the years. The fun thing is now that they are adults I can totally see that influence in their homes!! They are used to this and that from here and there coming together to make a home.

  6. When I click on #6, it doesn't take to to anything. I was hoping to find out where the dresser and and swing chair were from. Thanks!

    1. Unfortunately the photo I found on Pinterest was a dead end and someone had just uploaded the photo. So sorry! The dresser is a campaign chest though and you can find vintage ones (I got mine at a thrift store!) and Land of Nod sells them too (very expensive though). Hope that helps a little!
